How to Register: The Step-by-Step Process
Step one: Go to the official UCAT website (ucat.ac.uk) and navigate to the registration section. You will create an account using your personal email address. Use an email address you check regularly — all UCAT communications, including your score report, will be sent here.
Step two: Complete the registration form. You will be asked for personal details including your full legal name (exactly as it appears on your ID), date of birth, nationality, and school or institution details. You will also be asked demographic questions — these are used for research purposes and do not affect your test or score.
Step three: Confirm eligibility. The UCAT will prompt you to confirm that you meet the eligibility criteria for your intended year of entry. You can only sit UCAT once per testing cycle — attempting to register multiple times is treated as misconduct and all results may be withdrawn.
Step four: Once booking opens in June, log back into your UCAT account and use the Pearson VUE test centre locator to find an available slot at your nearest centre. Slots at popular centres fill quickly — book as early as possible once booking opens. You are not locked into your test date: you can reschedule with sufficient notice if your circumstances change.
What ID Do You Need and What to Bring on Test Day
UCAT requires government-issued photo identification. For most UK students, this means a current passport or a photocard driving licence. The name on your ID must exactly match the name on your UCAT registration — if there is a discrepancy, you may be turned away from the test centre.
You are not permitted to bring any personal items into the testing room. This includes mobile phones, bags, revision notes, food, or drinks. The test centre will provide secure storage (usually a locker) for your belongings. Inside the testing room, you will be given a laminated whiteboard or paper pad and a pen or marker as your scratch pad — this is the only tool available to you beyond the on-screen interface.
Arrive at least 20 minutes before your scheduled test time. The check-in process involves ID verification, a biometric scan, and locker assignment. Students who arrive late may not be admitted, and late arrival is not treated as an exceptional circumstance that warrants a refund or rebooking at no cost.
“Registration opens: May 2026. Booking opens: June 2026. Test window: mid-July to late September 2026. UCAS medicine and dentistry application deadline: 15 October 2026. Results sent to universities: early November 2026.”
Key Deadlines for UCAT 2026
Registration opens: May 2026. Booking opens: June 2026. Test window: mid-July to late September 2026. UCAS medicine and dentistry application deadline: 15 October 2026. Results sent to universities: early November 2026.
The single most important deadline implication: if you sit UCAT late in the testing window (late September), you will have your score with only two to three weeks before the UCAS deadline. This leaves very limited time to review your score and make informed decisions about your university choices. Students who sit early in the window — ideally by early August — have significantly more time to make strategic application decisions based on their result. Book early, sit early where possible.
